Swam the width(back and forth) of River Thames (Runneymede) - 08/07/2017
Everytime I'm by the river I am not certain if I can swim or enter it, but I so wanted to last year a s.african work college a pro in open water swimming motivated me and Aadya and we splashed in the river thames at laleham, but I would have hardly swam 10-15 mtrs, just seeing a green leafy, fishy, muddy bottomless river scared the s**t out of me.
It has been a hot british summer this year earlier this morning during my run with Aadya we checked the river water and it felt a good temperature to be in, later we packed our bags in our costumes drove to the runnymede park as it has parking, toilets and a coffee shop for mummy ..many... kids and dogs were splashing in the river, we did too. Saw lots of fishes, dragon flies and lots more fishes..boats passing by but i was not sure about swimming, did try a bit but we just kept on playing splashing each other. Then a tattooed gentleman came in the water his family challenging him to cross the river, i told aadya if he swims then i will too.
He did..then it was my turn, Aadya kept on motivating(nagging) me, it took me 10-15 mins to think it over all the whatifs ( eg. I get stuck in the water plants, a big fish which aadya saw earlier biting me, a passing by boat knocking me etc etc)
But I knew within I could do it, it looked easy for sure and I had been swimming in the comfort of the swimming pool for 1 km per session nearly once every week.
I started saw the deep green inside decided to keep my head out and do it, a bit out of breadth pushing aside the negative thoughts i carried on, not sure how wide the river is here but surely more than 50 mts..reaching the other end, held on to the concrete wall, waved to aadya caught my breadth, saw a boat coming my way at a distance but far, started my journey back, on my back this time enjoying the open sky..i could see nothing but the sky, thinking what if i was drifting, the boat just passed by next to me...i was all smiles certain I'll make it..greeted by a scared hungry swan and excited Aadya.
Happy me another check on my never ending To-Do list..thanks to the heavens I'll surely attempt a triathalon now!
